Extreme Makeover: Home Edition helps a family - and a neighborhood
The last portion of the hour-long show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is spent with host Ty
Pennington unveiling a rebuilt home for a family in great need. He leads a group of workers and onlookers in the chant, “Move that bus!” so the family can see its brand new digs and the audience can see the owners’ emotional reaction to the gift of a new home.
The Powell family of Buffalo, NY are to be the recipient of a new home. Standard practice is to demolish the inadequate home and start from scratch. But their project is not the only one for their neighborhood. The Powell home is being disassembled rather than demolished.
Known as a “green demolition,” flooring, siding, doors and windows will be meticulously removed from the Massachusetts Avenue home and used to help improve a few neighbor’s homes. This is a first for the Extreme Makeover crew. Buffalo ReUse will be on hand to lend their expertise and help in the “green demolition,” one of their specialties.
A neighbor who lives across the street from the Powells is expecting to get a new porch, siding and windows to help refurbish her home. The vacant lot next to her home will become a small park or garden, all courtesy of the volunteers from Extreme Makeover.
The episode is expected to air in early 2010.
